We built a campsite in Ampang

The best nights we remembered all looked the same: a fire, a grill, and people who stopped checking their phones. The problem was the drive — two hours out of Kuala Lumpur, a tent to pitch, and a coffee situation that never worked.

So we brought the campsite in. ASAP & SOUL sits at 17, Jalan Ulu Ampang, KL, a short drive from town, with charcoal grills, real fire pits and canvas chairs pulled close enough that the smoke gets in your jacket. You grill your own skewers while music plays through the night. The kitchen keeps sending out mac and cheese long after most places have flipped their chairs.

Once a month, on a weekend, we bring in a special fireshow appearance — sparks, flame and a pause in conversation while the night gets a little more dramatic.

Everything here starts at the grill. Skewers of Lao BBQ spicy beef, marinated chicken, lamb shoulder and meatballs go straight over glowing coals, brushed with sauces we make in house — black pepper, mushroom and chimichurri. The char isn't a garnish; it's the point.

Around it we built the rest: a smokey wagyu pizza with a hickory finish, camping mac and cheese in a dutch oven, cold refreshers to cut the smoke, and a proper coffee bar because the night is long.

We open at 6 PM and close at 3 AM, every day. That's not a gimmick — it's who shows up. Friends unwinding after a shift, couples on a second date who don't want a bright room, groups who ordered a Fire Feast and are still arguing over the last skewer at 1 AM.

Nobody hurries you out. Order another latte. Feed the fire. That's the whole idea.
